# Ports 80 or 443 are occupied

The installer reports that the port is occupied, or the installation stops at the HTTP/HTTPS check.

### Symptoms

* the installation says that `80` or `443` are already in use;
* Caddy edge does not start;
* another website opens on the domain;
* the new language is not added correctly.

### Possible causes

* Nginx is already running on the server;
* Apache is installed;
* another Caddy is running;
* there is a hosting control panel;
* the old site or the old demo version is still there;
* the port is occupied by another Docker container.

### What to check

```bash
sudo ss -ltnp | grep -E ':80|:443'
```

Check the Docker containers:

```bash
sudo docker ps
```

### How to fix it

{% tabs %}
{% tab title="This is an old site" %}
Stop the old service if it is no longer needed, then repeat the installation.
{% endtab %}

{% tab title="This is Bloggers Bot Platform" %}
If another language version of the platform is already installed on the server, the shared Caddy edge can be reused. The new language version must be installed on the same domain.
{% endtab %}

{% tab title="This is someone else's service" %}
If the port is occupied by an important third-party project, do not stop it without understanding the consequences. It is better to use a separate server or a separate hosting scheme.
{% endtab %}
{% endtabs %}

{% hint style="danger" %}
Do not delete Nginx, Apache, Caddy, or Docker containers blindly. First make sure they are not serving another working project.
{% endhint %}

### When to contact support

If you do not understand which process is occupying the port, send the specialist the output of the command `ss -ltnp` and the list `docker ps`.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://vitrina-blogerov.gitbook.io/bloggers-showcase/product-docs/product-docs-en/possible-errors/ports-80-or-443-are-occupied.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
